2024 Bream Bay Sports Awards Evening
The 2024 Trigg Bream Bay Sports Awards will be held at the Waipu Celtic Barn on Friday 21 March 2025.
The Awards evening promotes the value of sport with Bream Bay as well as recognizing the tremendously important role in improving mental and physical health and fostering a sense of community and social inclusion. In 2024 we were unable to hold the Awards therefore the 2024 Awards encompassed both the 2023 and 2024 calendar years.

2024 Awards Guest Speakers
FRANK BUNCE & LUI ANDERSON
Fresh off their appearance in last year's MatchFit TV programme are New Zealand legends Frank Bunce and Lui Anderson.
As our keynote speakers they will discuss the challenges of retiring from professional sports, and transitioning to new careers and everyday life in New Zealand. Highlighting how staying active builds resilience, supports mental health, and helps tackle life’s challenges head on.
Frank Bunce is a former professional rugby union player. He is known for his career as a center and for being part of the legendary All Blacks team of the 1990s. Frank was renowned for his strong defense, leadership, and ability to break through tackles.
Initially Frank played for Auckland, debuting in 1986. Later he moved across the Harbour Bridge to join North Harbour in 1991.
Frank earned 55 caps for New Zealand and was a part of some memorable moments in rugby history. Although Frank's international debut was in 1991 for Samoa, playing in 4 games at the World Cup.
As rugby turned professional towards the end of his career, Frank made appearances for the Chiefs, Castres (France), and Bristol (England) before retiring in 1999.
After hanging up his boots, Frank transitioned into coaching, taking on roles in Italy, New Zealand, and Samoa throughout his career. He remains highly regarded as one of New Zealand's greatest centers.
Lui (Louis) Anderson is a former New Zealand rugby league player known for his strong and tough playing style. He played as a forward, debuting for the Warriors in 2004. Lui went on to play five seasons in the NRL. During this time he also represented New Zealand as part of the Kiwis, gaining 18 caps.
He then moved on to Europe. Initially joining the Warrington Wolves debuting in the Super League in 2008. He rounded off his on-field career enjoying seven years with the Catalan Dragons in France. Lui played over 100 games for each of the Super League teams.
Outside of rugby, Lui enjoys quality time with his seven children, as well as surfing, diving, and staying active. Lui now inspires a new generation of players through his development and academy roles with Rugby League Northland.
