Have a Go Sports Festival
In 2023 it was decided to try something new. The country, and the world, had been hibernating with the pandemic and we needed to get people out and active.
This desire gave birth to the idea of a Have A Go Sports Festival. A no pressure way for children and adults to get out and try a sport without the pressure of having to sign up for a season or buy equipment.
To say it was a success would be an underestimation. The Bream Bay Sports Trust team estimated that about 12 sports might be prepared to host a Have a Go session.
Ultimately 20 sports groups put their hand up to host a day celebrating their sport. Despite cyclones and other natural disasters the month went ahead and many new members were added to clubs.
The overwhelming response was a bonus for clubs which had struggled within the context of lockdowns and uncertainty. It gave sport a boost, and new friendships made.
Summer Sports Sept/Oct 2024
Have a Go Sports Festival
Summer is coming - and so are Summer Sports! Have a Go over Summer.
Playing a summer sport can be a rewarding experience, even if you don’t typically engage in athletic activities. Summer sports offer a fun way to get moving without the pressure often associated with competitive sports. Activities like casual beach volleyball, swimming, or frisbee allow you to enjoy the outdoors while being active, making exercise feel less like a chore.
Participating in summer sports can be a great way to meet new people and build connections. Bream Bay community sports and casual groups welcome newcomers, creating a friendly environment where you can socialize and have fun, regardless of skill level.
Even if you’re not an athlete, having a go at a sport can boost your confidence. Many summer activities focus more on enjoyment and participation than on competition. You’ll likely discover new interests and abilities you didn’t know you had, fostering a sense of achievement.
Lastly, being active in the summer can enhance your mood and energy levels. The combination of fresh air, sunshine, and physical activity is a natural mood booster. So, whether you’re diving into a pool or kicking a ball around at the park, embracing a summer sport can bring joy and vitality to your life.

Feb/Mar 2024 Have a Go Sports Festival
It's back for another year!
February and March 2024 is the time to Have a Go at sports in Bream Bay.
We are so blessed to be able to bring this back for another year. Of course it wouldn't be possible without the incredible generosity of time and spirit by the volunteers in our community. Every sport survives due to the energy and commitment of a group of volunteers. They are the backbone of sport here in Bream Bay, as they are across New Zealand.
A huge thank you to our team of sponsors who don't hesitate to put their name and money behind our community and the future of sport here.
Can't wait to see what happens in 2024 and all the years ahead.
